Fencing at Polwhele House

Polwhele House is proud to host a thriving Fencing Club, affiliated with the British Fencing Association and fully compliant with all safeguarding and governance standards.

The club specialises in foil fencing and is open to all ages, including adults. Whether your child is new to the sport or already has experience, we offer a supportive and structured environment to help them progress. We are dedicated to making the sport accessible to all, promoting inclusivity, belonging and sportsmanship, while inspiring every member to strive for their personal best.

Group Training:

  • Fridays: 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.

  • Available throughout the week by arrangement.

Earning your Ticket

Pre-Prep children can sign up for Mini-Fence on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Once you’ve earned your ticket, you are a fully-fledged member of the club, and welcome to attend any of the sessions, including Wednesday’s Strength and Conditioning from 4 – 5pm and Sparring from 5 –  6pm, the club’s competitions and fixtures and most importantly 1:1 lessons, which are available throughout the week.

Once you have earned your ticket and wish to start fencing and training seriously with electric scoring apparatus, you will want to purchase your own fencing equipment, although this is not needed until you are sure that this is the sport for you. You can read equipment advice here.

Competitions and Achievements

Polwhele Fencing Club runs a busy calendar of fixtures and competitions throughout the year, with full coach support at all nominated events. You can see our calendar here.

We are proud to have been named ‘Best School Foil Club in Cornwall’ (2024), and our members regularly achieve success at county level, including several Cornwall champions. We were third at the British National Team Championships and our club regularly appears in the top 10 of the Leon Paul Junior Ranking Series. You can read about our latest activities here.

Fencers regularly take B.A.F proficiency exams and have been achieved bronze, silver and gold awards.
