FAQs

At what age can my child start at Polwhele House Nursery?

We accept children into our Nursery in the term in which they turn 2.

How do I find out about your Nursery?

From September 2025, Parents and toddlers who are interested in becoming part of our school community are also welcome to join us at Polwhele Toddlers, which will run one afternoon a month from 2.00 – 3.00pm

This is a popular and playful group where parents with younger children can ‘get to know’ the school, the environment, potential peers, and the Nursery leader.

Please contact our Head of Pre-Prep, Amber Marsh, to register your interest by emailing amber.marsh@polwhelehouse.co.uk.

Can I use my Nursery Funding?

We accept Nursery Funding up to 30 hours a week. You will need to make an application, which we are happy to support. Nursery Funding is offered to children for 6 terms until they turn 5 so some parents benefit from Funding in Reception, too.

Is there a uniform?

Yes, it can be purchased from the School Office. It is simpler than the uniform worn by older children and is designed to be comfortable and age appropriate.

Some extracurricular activities, such Horse Riding, have additional clothing or equipment requirements. These will be explained in full if you choose to enrol your child in one of these activities.

If I decide my child would like to start, what happens next?

We always recommend that your child attends a few taster sessions to help them settle in comfortably. Please get in touch with the School Office and we’ll arrange as many sessions as your child needs. Some children start with a full morning or afternoon, while others begin with just an hour and gradually build up. Every child is different, and we’ll work with you to ensure the transition feels right for them.

What about food and special diets?

If your child stays with us over lunchtime, they will join the Pre-Prep children for a meal. Lunch is freshly prepared on-site and served by their teachers in a calm, supportive environment. If your child is unable to eat the main meal offered, an alternative will always be available. We’re happy to accommodate special dietary needs – just let us know what your child requires. Our Kitchen Staff and your child’s teacher will work with you to ensure the appropriate meals are provided.
