Our Ponies

Arnold

Arnold is a bay 11.2hh Dartmoor Hill Pony, who is our Mascot at Polwhele. Arnold can turn his hooves to anything at all, and has represented Polwhele at many show jumping competitions, always in the ribbons. He loves teaching smaller children to ride and is a wonderful pony for small children to lead and groom.

Bruce

Bruce is a 15.2hh bay ex racehorse, bred in Ireland for a racing syndicate and then changed to a show jumping career. He is now a wonderful school master for flatwork and dressage. He is the leader of our lovely pack and absolutely loves a good canter.

Missy

Nel

Nel is a beautiful palomino Welsh Cob, standing at 13.2hh. Nel was backed at Polwhele later in her life, and has lovely movement, and is a very talented if sensitive show jumper. Nel likes a nice relaxed rider and is a forward going pony who loves her work.

Dodo

Dodo is a 15.2hh dark bay purebred Spanish Horse, bred as a military horse in Spain and later moved to the UK. He has enjoyed a lovely career in dressage, working equitation and Concours d’Elegance, and is a very sensitive talented horse, teaching competent riders more intricate controls and movements. He loves rolling in the field.

Polly

Polly is a strawberry roan 12hh pony, now retired from riding, but relishing her new role as a therapy pony. Polly has the sweetest temperament and is a wonderful gentle pony, perfectly behaved for the smallest of children leading her. She adores everyone human and loves nothing more than being groomed and fussed.

Saracen

Saracen comes from the same local stud as Nel, and is a 14.2hh Chestnut Welsh Cob. Saracen is a great all round pony who really enjoys show jumping. He is still developing his balance and always tries very hard for his rider. Saracen loves hacking and pleasure rides and is very social with his equine friends. He prefers to live outdoors all year round.

Dawn

Dawn is a Bodmin Moorland pony, dapple grey and standing at a chunky 13.2hh. Dawn is a real character and loves to sleep – absolutely anywhere ! Quite often when stopped in a lesson, she will be having a snooze, but is then happy to quickly pop into speed mode  when asked by her rider.  She is a talented show jumper and loves nothing more than being groomed and fussed in the stable.

Magic

Magic is black 14.2hh cob who came  to Polwhele shortly after being backed quite late in her life. Magic has such a big fan club with all of our children, and she is very safe and dependable to ride. She is exceptional at knocking jumps down, although she has improved a lot since she first arrived. Magic will do anything for a special human she really likes, and is a great friend and companion to the rest of the herd.
