New Children's Book Launched at Polwhele House

We were delighted to host children's author, Rachel Hickman in order to launch her new book, One Silver Summer.

The novel focuses around the story of a young girl who, after the loss of her mother, finds solace through a bond with a silver horse, while exploring her new home in Cornwall.

Aimed at readers aged 11 to 13, the children were offered the chance to hear extracts from the book, meet with Rachel and be inspired for their own literary pursuits.

Mr McCullough said:

"We were happy to welcome Rachel to the school in order to launch the book. Polwhele House is the perfect place to share the story – the relationship and bond with the horse in the story resonates with many of our pupils. We have extensive equestrian facilities and many children are keen riders who have a passion for horses."

Despite being based in Hampshire, Rachel spends most summers in Cornwall, where she penned the novel. It was the perfect setting for a new kind of young adult novel fitting a gap in the market, and no better place for the launch.

Rachel was delighted to visit Polwhele House for the launch, saying:

"I wanted to offer something different for young people who are looking for a well written, romantic, 'clean-teen' fiction that is simultaneously modern, and empowering. Many of Polwhele House's students fit that brief, so it was the ideal place to launch the book."

The book is available to buy online at Amazon, in store at Waterstones bookshops and other retailers.
