Riding at Polwhele House

Set below our unique walled garden, and through the oldest part of Polwhele House – our ancient arched doorway, is a wonderful Riding School with excellent facilities. We offer riding lessons for children from 3 years upwards, on our range of ponies from 11 hands up to 15.2 hands high. Children learn to ride in a fun and encouraging atmosphere, and enjoy a variety of activities in our All-weather Arena, woodland trails, and extensive estate. Skills are developed and displayed in regular school competitions in dressage, show jumping and gymkhanas.
In addition to riding lessons, there are opportunities to learn about Horse Care and Management in After School Clubs and School Holiday Camps and activities. Displays and competitions are enjoyed by all levels, and children in years 7 & 8 may apply to become a School Groom. Groom duties include bringing in the ponies from the paddocks in the morning, feeding and grooming them in preparation for the day ahead, and stewarding for School Competitions.
The stable yard is a wonderful and relaxed place where many pupils enjoy spending some time participating in anything from mucking out the stables to learning how to put a bridle together or plaiting and washing the ponies ahead of travelling to an equestrian competition. Many children enjoy simply spending time with our lovely, friendly ponies.
